How did the selfie become the trend it is today?Most trends develop using a model similar to that shown in the diagram on the left. In the case of the selfie phenomenon, the innovators were the people who began using the word to describe pictures of themselves.
The early adopters were mainly teenagers and young adolescents, who were eager to catch onto the trend. Both majorities are likely to have participated in the trend after selfies began to spread to social media sites. Laggards are people who join a trend after it has flourished, and as the selfie culture is still prominent, we do not see many people of this group. |
