Types of #Selfies
There are many varieties of the selfie, some examples are:
|
#DuckfieOne of the best known varieties of the selfie, it involves the taker pursing their lips in an attempt to emulate the puffy lips of celebrities on our screens. This unmissable pose allows us to attain the pout of famous models and actresses without the need for collagen implants. #BedfieA lethargic selfie of the taker in bed, demonstrating their unwillingness to leave the comfort of their warm bed, and their eagerness to pick up their phone for a quick selfie. This variety often features a make-up free face, pyjamas and things you might see around your bed. #DistractedDriverfieA selfie featuring the interior of a car, an often bored looking taker and a danger for the taker and drivers, pedestrians and other people on the road. These selfies have lead to harm and death, particularly when the taker is the driver. 32 year old Courtney Sanford got in a car crash while uploading a distracted driver selfie to Facebook, and subsequently lost her life. #MirrorfieThe taker points their phone at a mirror or other reflective surface and the camera captures the reflected image. This is often used to showcase an OOTD (Outfit of the day), or change-room selfie to get a full length picture with more objects in the background and less arm in the frame. #HealthieA variety of the #mirrorfie, this selfie showcases the fit bodies of gym buffs around the world, hence the name - HEALTHie. It is not uncommon to see flexed biceps, six-pack abs or toned legs in these pictures, and gym equipment in the background only add to the desired result - looking in shape. #BelfieAn awkward selfie featuring the taker's posterior. It can be taken in a mirror or using the new technology of the 'belfie stick' - the equivalent of a selfie stick, however for the sole purpose of taking these 'belfies'. #Groupie/UsiePerhaps the most socially acceptable selfie, it features a group of friends, family or complete strangers in the same photo. The reason that it is so accepted, is that it does not showcase one's narcissism, but rather their relationship with other people. The infamous 'Oscars selfie' on the left was taken on Ellen DeGeneres's phone and went viral across twitter, being retweeted over 2 million times. #TravelfieA selfie often taken on holiday in a different city or country, featuring the taker enjoying their vacation with famous sights or beautiful nature. This type of selfie is also socially accepted to be a form of creating memories, rather than a form of narcissism. |
