Global IssueOver the last 5 years, the concept of the selfie has become a global issue, particularly as the trend became a phenomenon in the years leading up to 2013-4. Although portrayed by the media to be a narcissistic vanity ritual undergone predominantly by female teenagers, it has become evident that people of all ages, genders, religions and cultural backgrounds can be affected by selfies.
Everyone that takes photos of themselves is at risk of selfie addiction - a compulsion to constantly take selfies - and it is particularly worrying that 'selfie addiction' is now classified as a medical condition, highlighting how dangerous an obsession with our selfies can be. |
